Elvis Andrus
A two-time, MLB All-Star shortstop, Elvis originally signed a contract with the Atlanta Braves at age 16 but he debuted with the Texas Rangers in 2009, finishing second in American League Rookie of the Year voting that season.
In addition to his All-Star selections in 2010 and 2012, Elvis scored his 1,000th career run in 2022. The next season, he recorded the 2,000th hit of his career, joining a list of just 300 players since 1889 – many of the greatest hitters of all time.
Elvis also played in his 2,000th game in 2023, rounding out an outstanding career not only with the Rangers, but also with the (then) Oakland Athletics and the Chicago White Sox.
Gilberto Corredera
For L. Gilberto Corredera, his journey is one that only God could write.
In his I Am Second film, Gilberto describes growing up in communist Cuba where belief in God was considered a waste of time. But in his late teens, a friend faithfully introduced him to Christ.
After Gilberto’s family moved to the U.S. in 2009, he eventually found a job at Prestonwood Baptist Church in Plano, Texas. The ministry leader, who had planted churches in Cuba, started as a dishwasher in the church’s kitchen. His family’s first year in the U.S., he says, was a year spent crying, praying and asking the Lord why He had brought them here.
However, Gilberto affirms, God was faithful.
Since 2010, Gilberto has been part of Prestonwood’s pastoral staff and leads Prestonwood en Español, which comprises 3,000 members across three campuses and reaches people in 59 countries, through a weekly television program.
Dennis Swanberg
Dennis is an encouraging speaker, comedian, and humorist, who served the local church in pastoral ministry for 23 years. But, in 1995, he took a leap of faith when he stepped down as church pastor and stepped up to the microphone on stages and platforms across America and the rest of the world.
“The Swan” soon became “AMERICA’S MINISTER OF ENCOURAGEMENT,” a job he takes seriously as he continues to speak to about 150 organizations, faith-based groups and corporations, every year.
Dennis has hosted two successful TV series, authored nine books and created over two dozen DVD/CD productions.
