Prayer
What our pastors have said about prayer, drawn from messages preached across our campuses.
In their own words
“And in the 66 books of the Bible, there are 650 prayers that are recorded. Prayers of praise, prayers of confession, prayers for protection. There are prayers that are full of hope and prayers for those that are running on empty. Prayers for immediate need and prayers for things in the future. All kinds of prayers are written down throughout scripture. But one consistent thing that we see is prayer is the most powerful form of communication we can have.”
Andrew Skelton · Observing the Power of Prayer“So what do we know about prayer? Well, prayer is the platform of both our private and public praise and worship. Prayer is the lifeline of our sustained daily communion with God. Prayer is the place of intercession for the needs and care of others. prayer is the practice that teaches us dependence on God. And sometimes prayer is the panic button.”
Andrew Bryan · A Prayer From the Deep“There and then, the entire government, which was much smaller, at its inception knelt in prayer. It was prayer, prayer, and more prayer that began the nation in humility, acknowledging the sovereign God.”
Jonathan McNeal · The Prayer of Freedom“Some of us were taught that a part of the liturgy or the ritual of prayer was that of standing and kneeling whenever a church gathered together, or bedtime prayers that were said on your knees, or maybe prayers around the table where people held hands together. But the real issue in prayer is not the physical posture of your body. The real issue in all prayer is the posture of the heart.”
David H. McKinley · United in Prayer“What do we see from this text? We see Jesus go to his father in prayer and go to his father in prayer and again go to his father in prayer. We see Jesus show sweat equity in prayer, persistence in prayer. We live in a culture that I mean we just have so many wonderful conveniences, don't we? I mean like Amazon buy now. Thank you. So great.”
· Women's Fall 2026 Bible Study - The Purpose of Prayer, Week 4“There's reflective prayers where we're just abiding with the Lord and thinking about what He's done. There's contemplative prayer where we're sitting and listening, waiting for His voice. There's prayers of lament where we grieve. There's prayers of joy and celebration. All of those prayers are called for and appropriate as we pray. He mentions intercessions. This refers to the request that we make on the behalf of others.”
