Spiritual Gifts

“What is a spiritual gift? A spiritual gift is a special endowment and giftedness from God for a specific spiritual role, responsibility, or task. And so Paul says, but grace, a spiritual gift, has been given to each one of us according to the measure of Christ.”

“Here we meet and are about to engage in the next section of this text in a discussion about spiritual gifts. The Bible makes it clear that spiritual gifts are given by the grace of God. And there are three primary passages of Scripture that describe spiritual gifts in the New Testament. Romans chapter 12 introduces us to what I would call the basic motivational gifts. Every one of us has a basic motivational spiritual gift.”

“You can also Google spiritual gifts assessments, spiritual gifts inventory, and you can take a test. You can find out your giftedness and what God has gifted you to do. You can talk to some of the leaders in the church and begin to let them know who you are, and they can help you understand your giftedness, but do you know your giftedness? And then do you know gifts well enough to call out giftedness in other people's lives?”

“If you go to Romans chapter 12, which is another passage dealing with spiritual gifts, there are seven basic motivational gifts that are defined there. And you have one of those basic gifts and you have different varieties of ways in which those gifts can be used.”

“These are the people with the spiritual gift of criticism, right? The spiritual gift of criticism. You know who you are in the room today, right? And so I want us to read this and study this from a perspective of trying to insert ourselves into the story. And let me say this, not insert ourselves as the hero of the story, but insert ourselves as the Pharisees in the story.”

And that's why the Bible says, take the quality test. Is this thought honorable? And then the integrity test. Finally, brothers, whatever things are true, whatever things are honorable, whatever things are just, just.”

And it said that my top four were shephering, teaching, mercy, and evangelism.”
