Surprised
What our pastors have said about surprised, drawn from messages preached across our campuses.
In their own words
“But I don't know about you, I'm not an expert gift giver by any means, but my wife is, and she loves to give gifts, and I've learned a lot about gifts and surprises. Apparently, there are several levels of surprise, several functionalities of surprise. First of all, there are those surprises that are surprises that are just supposed to be for a moment. They're just supposed to be there for the experience.”
Joseph Humphreys · John the Baptist“But what an experience that was to be able to create that surprise in that moment and to be able to do something that's so unforgettable. But life is like that. We have all kinds of surprises that come. Some of them are Christmas surprises and they're wonderful joys. Some of the surprises that come in our lives are surprises that bring responsibilities.”
David H. McKinley · The Shepherds in the Field“Okay, many, many of us have been surprised. I didn't ask you if it was a good surprise or a bad surprise. I just said how many of you have been surprised. And yes, see, Christmas is often a season of surprises because we receive gifts that are wrapped up, and then when we open them, we never know what's inside until we get there, right?”
David H. McKinley · Mary and the Baby“That's number one. Number two, you're a person who you might make a list, but you really love it when somebody gives you an amazing surprise. So how many of you are the first, just buy me what's on the list, okay? How many of you guys are like, give me something good that's a surprise? Man, so many people are surprise people. I am not a surprise person at all. But I remember growing up, my mom was a big Christmas. She's a big giver. And so Christmases were pretty great around the Newman household.”
Stephen Newman · Looking Up and Living On“It's speaking to Joseph. He said, but he considered these things. So Joseph's just been told that Mary is pregnant with a baby. Let me ask you a question before I go here. let me ask you a question. Have you ever been surprised? Have you ever found out you're pregnant and didn't think you were? Right? Whoopsie, right? Kids, have you ever been surprised? You ever scared each other or been surprised by somebody? By me, yeah, I love to scare you guys. It's a lot of fun. I'll tell you the day of my life where I was just surprised.”
Stephen Newman · The Voice of the Prophets“I'll never forget. We walked away. Dr. Graham looked at me and he said, McKinley, you always run into celebrities wherever you go. And he was right. I don't know why. I've just had this snack for meeting people like that. And we did that day in the Hoosier Dome. It was a surprising encounter.”
