Vulnerability
What our pastors have said about Vulnerability, drawn from messages preached across our campuses.
In their own words
“of physical vulnerability, those that are also mentally vulnerable, emotionally vulnerable, but ultimately those that are spiritually vulnerable. And so I'm going to hand the microphone to my friend, Victor Slaughter here, and one of our staff members here on our missions team as well. And he's going to talk about what that looks like internationally. And then I want to try to give us a little bit of encouragement to what that could look like here in our own front yard, backyard, side street, everywhere that we walk and go here on this part of the world”
· Week 2“But also, also there's other times that he comes and he tempts us at our very, very lows. notice that Jesus was hungry, right? He was weak. He was vulnerable. And sometimes Satan tempts us when we're hungry, tired, vulnerable, when we're grieving loss. And in verse two, it says this, after fasting 40 days and 40 nights, he was hungry. He's at a place of vulnerability. Notice, Satan didn't come the first time.”
Stephen Newman · Devil: The Deceitful Adversary“But there is one other thing about opportunity that I want you to know, and that is opportunity is vulnerable. It's vulnerable. What I mean by that is we either use it or lose it. We seize it or we waste it. And in every one of our lives, one of the most important things that we must do every day is to realize that the opportunities we have today are vulnerable. And if they're valuable, then we must do everything that we can to give our time, our attention, and our energy to it.”
David H. McKinley · When Opportunity Overwhelms“vulnerability of love the vulnerability of Love look what it says in Chapter 13 Verse 7. it says love bears all things believes all things hopes all things and endures all things so what that means Bears means it covers all things believes it means that we're fully persuaded of this fact hopes is trust in get this comma or giving up control to really be vulnerable and to love something means that you give someone else power over your heart”
· Is Love, LOVE?“a time in all of this when I have felt greater exposure and greater vulnerability and greater demand and greater struggle. And that's not just because I'm a pastor. That's because I'm a person just like you. And you've struggled with those things. And so let's give each other some space and some room to acknowledge the vulnerability that we've struggled with, but to remember that the greatest way to address vulnerability”
David H. McKinley · Times and Seasons“Intimacy means this, into me you see. So there's a Hebrew word for that, yadah, to know me. Right. And so Jesus wants us to know him. And so a part of my role as a husband is to be so clothed in the righteousness of Christ that I can be vulnerable and transparent for her to know me and she can be vulnerable and transparent towards me as well because of the grace of God. So we're on the same team. When we look at this scripture, we see that consistently marriage and”
Grant Janik · Session 6“And I think about the consequences in our witness in the world, the consequences of our testimony and the impact of our lives for the gospel. Lord, the stakes are just so high. And Lord, we're vulnerable. We're vulnerable to the wisdom of the world. And so, Lord, give us the heart and the mind of Christ. Help us to identify the wisdom of God versus the wisdom of the world.”
Joseph Humphreys · Not All Wisdom is Wise“cares for orphans and widows in their distress and their affliction. In James' world, these would have been the most vulnerable. They had no way to really fix their condition. And so they were reliant upon others just to live. So this represents the most vulnerable people. But it was never just meant to be orphans and widows in their distress.”
