Pray for Caroline, 9th grader at Augusta Christian. Caroline initially suffered on open tibia/fibula fracture playing soccer on 11/9. She was at home for a few weeks recovering when on12/1 she spiked a 103 fever. At the ER her knee was aspirated and surgeons decided to wash it out. We’ve been in the hospital ever since then. She’s been on IV antibiotics but her fevers and inflammation markers never went away. She has had a CT scan, Doppler Ultrasound, echocardiogram, upper GI scope and everything was clear..it was a mystery. She also hasn’t eaten in 4 weeks and received a NG tube for feeding, she’s received 2 units of blood, and has a PICC line to receive antibiotics for probably 6 weeks at home.
Docs consulted with Infectious Disease and everyone decided the rod in her tibia needed to come out even though her leg didn’t seem infected. She had surgery yesterday to remove it and infection was present in the canal of the bone and tracked up through the knee and thigh. She will go back into surgery Monday for another wash out and to have the fracture stabilized (maybe plate and screws). We’ve have a long road ahead but she is one of the toughest and bravest people I know. We appreciate all the prayers!
