God – Our Rock and Fortress
The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer, my God, my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold and my refuge, my savior; you save me from violence. – 2 Samuel 22:2b-3

David sang this “Song of Deliverance” after the Lord rescued him from the hand of Saul. He praised God for taking care of him during a very difficult time. Think about what these words mean. A rock is strong and unbreakable. A fortress is fortified and suggests a safe place we run to for defense. One who delivers is a person who brings us into safety, away from the enemy. When we run to our God for refuge we are fleeing to a place of hope, trust, and security. If God is our shield, He protects us. He is like a covering, protecting us from our enemy’s assaults physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. Our salvation comes from the Lord. He brings us to victory and a place of abundance. A stronghold is a high place, a secure height, and a place of retreat. Our Savior rescues, preserves, avenges, and defends, giving us freedom and liberty.
Take a moment each day to go to God and praise Him for who He is!
