Praying against Pride
Pride is harmful to any relationship. It destroys, demeans, and causes great distress. Recently, I read this quote about pride: “It’s okay to lose your pride over someone you love, but don’t lose someone you love over your pride.” – Author unknown
Scripture tells us that Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall. – Proverbs 16:18
But the Bible also gives us instruction on how we can guard our hearts and the hearts of those we love against this deadly sin. Let Philippians 2:3-8 be your prayer today.
Lord, help me …
Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility help me count others more significant than myself. Let me look not only to my own interests, but also to the interests of others. Give me the mind of Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. I ask this in Jesus holy name, amen.
God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble. – James 4:10
