Praying for Your Children

The school year has begun! For many of us that means added anxiety, endless to-do lists, and dreaded homework battles. For others who have older children, school is no longer an issue. Your adult children have moved on to other real-life complexities that cause stress and worry on an entirely different level.

Whatever stage of life you find yourself in, praying for (and with) your children is one of the greatest gifts you can give them.

The following are a few verses to pray for your children at any age of life. Personalize these verses and unlock the power of God’s Word in your prayers.

Pray that your child will have an unceasing and vibrant love for Jesus, God’s Word, and prayer.

And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength. – Mark 12:30

Pray that your child will put others before him/herself.

You shall love your neighbor as yourself. – Mark 12:31

Pray that your child is released from the power of fear and worry.

Fear not, for I am with you;
 be not dismayed, for I am your God;
I will strengthen you, I will help you,
 I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. – Isaiah 41:10

Pray that your child will have a kind, humble, and compassionate heart.

Put on then, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience. – Colossians 3:12

Pray that your child will have a desire to obey God.

You shall therefore love the Lord your God and keep his charge, his statutes, his rules, and his commandments always. – Deuteronomy 11:1

Pray against evil in the life of your child.

Abstain from every form of evil. – 1 Thessalonians 5:22

Pray for pure relationships for your child.

Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.

Psalm 51:10
