“I need prayer”

“and he cried out and he said, Lord, save me. That's the shortest prayer in the Bible. Have you ever prayed that prayer? Lord, help me. Lord, save me. Yeah, many of us have prayed that prayer. The longest prayer in the Bible is recorded in John chapter 17. Interestingly enough, it is the prayer of Jesus for his disciples and his prayer for us. We are included specifically in the prayer of Jesus in John chapter 17. And so all that I'm saying to you is that as we look at this book, the Bible,”

“What do we see from this text? We see Jesus go to his father in prayer and go to his father in prayer and again go to his father in prayer. We see Jesus show sweat equity in prayer, persistence in prayer. We live in a culture that I mean we just have so many wonderful conveniences, don't we? I mean like Amazon buy now. Thank you. So great. I”

“And while prayer shouldn't always only be about me asking, God help me do this, God help me do that, prayer must always include asking because prayer is seeking God to do and to move and to work in ways in which we cannot supply or we cannot guide or direct our lives or the lives of others it was Jesus who taught us when we pray what was the order of business and prayer after we go through that opening preamble of the Lord's prayer he says give us this day our daily that's a specific”

“the founder of that orphanage said this, only a life of prayer and meditation will render a vessel ready for the master's use. You want your life to matter for God? You want to be used of God? You want to be blessed of God? you cannot do it apart from a vital life of prayer. The priority of prayer is in the life of Jesus. The priority of prayer must be essential in our lives also. But there's something more here, and that's not only the priority of prayer that drove the disciples to say, Lord, teach us to pray,”

“that prayer is all over the pages of the Bible and prayer is all over the lips of people that are in the Bible. And so prayer is a critical part of our lifeline to God. It was an author, Peter Stark, who said this, prayer is either the greatest insanity or the most wonderful news. Have you thought about that? Prayer is either the greatest insanity in all the world if all we're doing is sitting in a room or sitting in a car or walking along,”

“it as something that we say communally and collectively in a church or a small gathering, and that's fine to do that. But when Jesus gave the Lord's Prayer, it was not intended to simply be a prayer that we prayed as if it were a script. It was intended to be a pattern of prayer to shape everything else that we do. And so I want to identify for us five critical practices of prayer that Jesus gives us in this passage. If the prayer is to be a priority,”

“Prayer is not about you and me and my wants and needs, though those are included in prayer. The first point of prayer, the outsourcing of prayer, begins with a focus on God and who he is. And therefore, this is the pattern of prayer in our lives. it's to lead us to a place of humility and of dependency but that humility and dependency is also linked to a vital relationship that is identified here and that is that we call god”

“Prayer is a vital part of the walk and the worship of every Christian. Let me make several statements about prayer as we begin today. Prayer is the platform of both our private and public praise and worship to God. Prayer is the lifeline of our sustained daily communion with God. Prayer is the place of intercession for the needs and the cares of others.”

“well good evening everyone thank you so much for taking a little time out of your week to be here for our evening of prayer it's our prayer that this impacts you that this ignites you if you will to more prayer to a greater depth of prayer it's really our heart that you'll walk away from this evening not just having attended something but having been shaped and changed by prayer and so it seems”

“thoughts on prayer. She said, "Our prayers should be authentic, that they deploy, is that not an amazing word?" Um, amazing things, God's good spirit. She said our prayers, um, it can get messy, right, when we pray. Um, she says that our prayers should be real,”

“When we press into the Lord through prayer, we more rightly see him. And that enables us to more rightly see the things around us. One of the things the Lord taught me through that season about the purpose of prayer is that prayer is where I come to know him better. Prayer is where I come to commune with the living God who loves me and who wants to chisel and prune and change me little by little.”

“how to persevere in prayer, but also how to surrender through prayer. He's taught us a new depth of his faithfulness and his power. Prayer changed things because prayer changed us. And it changes us because it draws us to the heart of the only one who can change a heart. So Matthew 11 we see again come to me all who labor”

“He said, if as a nation we would ever depart from God, the Lord would remove his blessing. And then the newly inaugurated president, the House, the Senate, marched up the street to St. Paul's Chapel at Trinity Church in New York City, and then and there, the entire government, at its inception, knelt collectively in prayer. And it was prayer, prayer, and more prayer at the beginning of our nation and humility that we were acknowledging the sovereignty of God.”

“We can't measure the supposed spiritual growth we're told should be happening. You will never see prayer as good use of your time if you're thinking of prayer in terms of usefulness. That's the wrong starting point. And that's probably our greatest problem is that we see prayer as a consumer item rather than as a communion reality. We don't understand that prayer has everything to do with living life with”

“but Jesus responded to their request, to their petition, by giving them an action plan. He said, let me tell you how. And here we have in this passage something of an edited version of what we know of as the Lord's Prayer, the fuller prayers found in the book of Matthew in the Sermon on the Mount. But here Jesus clearly gives them an outline. He gives them a process to follow in prayer. I know when we think of the Lord's Prayer, we think of”

“of this passage because there's one portion of this text we didn't read together but it's the part i've got to get to and that is the promise of prayer we talked about the priority of prayer we talked about the practices of prayer but let's look at the promise of prayer jesus is not through teaching his disciples when he said ask and it will be given to you seek and you will find, knock and the door will be opened to you. But look what he said in Luke 11, 11. He said, what father among you, if his son asks for a fish, will instead of a fish give him a serpent?”

“the impact of prayer. We don't really tend to see the importance of it in our lives. Oh, I don't mean that we don't say it's important. I'm talking about we don't practice as if it's important. Trevin Wax wrote this in an article on prayer. Prayer seems useless. Most of the time, we don't feel super close to God when we pray. We don't often see results, clear answers that are downstream from prayer.”

“Lord, teach us to pray. The Bible is a book filled with prayers. There are 66 books in the Bible. And of those 66 books, you can find 650 recorded prayers in the Bible. The shortest prayer in the Bible is the prayer that was recorded by Peter when he started walking on the water, which was a miracle, but suddenly realized that it was impossible”

“so doth it naturally tend to God in holy breathings and pantings. It naturally leads to God to converse with him by prayer. Let us pray. What does it mean? What is prayer to you? How I want you today to know and to understand the power of prayer in your life and the access through prayer that you have to God.”

“that in spite of all the good God has done in his life and all the things he's done for the Lord there's something Twisted inside of him what David prayers is prays in Psalm 51 is a prayer of repentance it's a prayer of repentance it's a prayer of coming to the end of yourself because the same things that cause pain and suffering around the world that we just lamented for is the same thing that wreaks havoc in our own lives and it's”
