It’s fall and nothing says “fall” like the smell of freshly baked Banana Bread coming from the kitchen or the taste of homemade Apple Caramel Crisp with a mound of vanilla ice cream on top! Yumm! I love trying new recipes and discovering new favorites to share with friends and neighbors. So whenever fall comes, I think a lot about my favorite fall foods. I often find myself perusing old cookbooks, scouting out recipes on Pinterest, and watching Food Network to find just the right recipe for a cool, crisp fall weekend get together. That’s what I’ve been doing today.

Does’t this Banana Bread look amazing? Trust me, it tastes so good!!

I’ve also been thinking a lot lately about my attitude when my faith is challenged. I’m talking about those times when I simply must serve up some Real Faith … you know, the “believing without seeing” kind of faith (But honestly, is there really any other kind?).

Let’s face it!  It’s pretty easy to display a good attitude toward God and others when things are going well, but it’s not so easy when the going gets tough! That’s when the proverbial rubber meets the road and my faith has to BE REAL!  I’ve found in those situations that I need a recipe for Real Faith! That recipe calls for things like remembering who God is and what He’s done so I can live out what I say I believe. These ingredients afford me the opportunity to enjoy an attitude that reflects my beliefs and that is much tastier than an attitude based on fear or faithlessness!

So I thought I’d share my Recipe For Real Faith with you!

Recipe For Real Faith

Remember! Remembering God’s faithfulness to me in past circumstances acts as a catalyst to ignite my heart to love God more passionately and fix my mind and eyes on Him.

… And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. – Hebrews 12:2

Praise! Praising God for who He is enables me to live in the power of His strength and not my own.  This keeps my thoughts on God and what He CAN do, not on me and my own abilities.

We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ. – 2 Corinthians 10:5

Give Thanks! Thanking God out loud for what He has done has a power all its own. It crushes the enemy’s efforts to defeat me, engages my heart and mind, and fills my mouth with positive words that bring glory to God and nourishment to my soul.

You brood of vipers! How can you speak good, when you are evil? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. – Matthew 12:34

So the next time your faith has to get real, try rememberingpraising and thanking.  I think you’ll find that this recipe will serve up the presence and power of the real Faith Giver!

I would absolutely love for you to share one of your favorite fall recipes with me. So in the comment section below, send a yummy fall recipe my way. I may even invite you over to enjoy it with me!  🙂
