We’ve made it to the end of Psalm 119. Great job, ladies! My prayer is that you have been encouraged, comforted, stretched and renewed in your walk with Christ as you’ve studied this psalm. My challenge and encouragement to us all is that our hearts and minds would continue to resonate with those of the psalmist in these final verses.
The psalmist closes out this psalm declaring his love and his need for the Word of God in his live. We see that in God’s Word he finds great peace, steady feet, hope, joy and direction for life.
He admits his need for God’s presence and the Word of God in his life.
He confesses a heart that is prone to wander and go its own way and yet he recognizes that his ways are always before the Lord.
Oh how I can relate!
He asks for understanding and deliverance according to the Word of God.
We see in these final verses his resolve and intentionality to seek the Lord and his Word continually.
Our psalm began with the declaration of blessing for those who walk in the law of the Lord, keep His testimonies and seek Him wholeheartedly! The importance and priority of the Word of God expressed at the beginning of this psalm is repeated at the end. The study of God’s Word is not just a means to an end, but rather a lifelong pursuit. Left to ourselves, we will have fickle feet and hearts that are prone to wander. We will seek to live independently from God and go our own way. Daily we need to come humbly before the Lord declaring our need for Him! We need Jesus in every moment of every day! God’s Word is the plumb line that continually aligns our hearts, minds and wills to His.
I keep Your precepts and testimonies for my ways are always before You. I have gone astray like a lost sheep; seek Your servant, for I do not forget Your precepts. —Psalm 119:168, 176
May we daily sing His praises and rehearse His goodness. May we make the reading, study and meditation of God’s Word a priority pursuit in our lives, knowing that by it we have life!
Let my soul live and praise You, and let Your rules help me. —Psalm 119:175
May we keep before us the truth of God’s Word that transforms and renews our hearts and minds and rest secure in the knowledge that His Word is sure, steadfast and endures forever.
The Bible is alive, it speaks to me; it has feet, it runs after me; it has hands, it lays hold of me. —Martin Luther
We are ending our time in Psalm 119, however, a new study in God’s Word awaits us! Beginning November 6, Jacqueline Heider will be leading us through Ecclesiastes 3 in a series titled, Grace and Gratitude in Every Season. We will explore the seasons of life together and discover how God can impart His grace and an attitude of gratitude on us in whatever circumstance we face.
I will leave you today with a song by one of my favorite worship artist, Kristyn Getty. It is my prayer that the truth of God’s Word would be planted deep in us, to shape and fashion us into Christ’s likeness and would overflow in our words and actions to those around us proclaiming the love of Christ! All for His purpose and His glory!
Speak, O Lord, as we come to You
To receive the food of Your Holy Word.
Take Your truth, plant it deep in us;
Shape and fashion us in Your likeness,
That the light of Christ might be seen today
In our acts of love and our deeds of faith.
Speak, O Lord, and fulfill in us
All Your purposes for Your glory.
—Speak O, Lord Keith and Kristyn Getty
Rejoicing in Him!
