Read … There is one who scatters, and yet increases all the more, and there is one who withholds what is justly due, and yet it results only in want. The generous man will be prosperous, and he who waters will himself be watered. Proverbs 11:24-25
Remember … Jesus, You are the living water. You pour Yourself out for others and provide refreshment that lasts and lasts. Generous in all Your ways, You are a humble servant, the King of Glory!
Respond … Forgive me for withholding from You what is rightly Yours. I often am guilty of closing my fists rather than opening my hands.
Reflect … I am grateful that as You increase in my life and become greater, I decrease and become less. Thank You for teaching me to scatter and disperse what I have been blessed with. Thank You for continuing to give me opportunities to see Your faithfulness as I learn to trust You more completely in all areas of my life.
Renew … Keep Your people – the church – from withholding from You what is justly due. Everything is Yours, and I desire to use Your resources to bless others and honor You. Help me become like You, Jesus, one who gives and gives and gives. Increase my desire to give from a generous heart, remembering that You will provide for all my needs over and above all I ask or think. In Jesus’ name, amen.
The first question which the priest and the Levite asked was: ‘If I stop to help this man, what will happen to me?’ But … the good Samaritan reversed the question: ‘If I do not stop to help this man, what will happen to him?’
